According to the Wall Street Journal, Shein, a rising star in the fashion industry, has attracted global attention with its astonishing rise trajectory, thanks to its highly competitive pricing strategy, such as $3 T-shirts and $10 jeans, which has allowed it to rapidly accumulate a huge customer base and become one of the leading players in the global fashion industry. In November last year, Shein took a major step by submitting an IPO application to the New York Stock Exchange, signaling the possibility of one of the most spectacular IPOs in recent years, further fueling the high expectations and widespread discussions about its future development.

Shein's Executive Vice President for the US, Tang Wei, has been actively traveling between states, meeting with political figures frequently, and conveying a core message with confidence: Shein is not only a benchmark for compliance and transparency in the industry, but also a trustworthy brand. However, unfortunately, the company is currently caught in the strained situation between China and the US, and its original plan for an IPO in New York has become a pipe dream.

Shein was founded in China in 2012 and moved its headquarters to Singapore in 2021, building a vast manufacturing network by collaborating with thousands of Chinese factories to continuously and rapidly launch new products, and setting up storage and logistics support systems in China. Although its operational base is rooted in China, Shein's main market is in the US and it has never entered the Chinese market for sales. Faced with international scrutiny, Shein's progress has been limited. On one hand, US legislators have deep suspicions about its ties to Chinese companies and are constantly pressuring it to increase supply chain transparency. On the other hand, the Chinese government expects Shein and similar companies to align with its official stance, especially given their reliance on China's extensive business resources. This situation highlights the complex geopolitical challenges that Shein faces in its global operations.

Shein intends to shift its IPO process to London, according to insiders, with the IPO application likely to be submitted shortly. With Beijing and Washington's disagreements on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and other high-tech areas escalating, no company can remain untouched. Under this dual pressure, Shein is striving to break through, and the challenges it faces are certainly a warning bell for other well-known brands rooted in China and trying to expand into the US market.
